Background

Star Mogul depicts the desperate struggle for survival that mankind's pioneers face at the frontiers of exploration into deep space.

Set in the 25th century A.D, the development of the ‘tachyon drive’ enabled man to boldly explore the many nearby star systems without facing the huge hurdle of journey times lasting decades or even centuries.

The discovery of a pan-galactic alien civilization, long since crumbled into ruins over 400,000 years ago, came as a great shock to humanity. However, this amazement quickly gave way to a desperate rush to the stars after the discovery of relics, tools and advanced machines by the initial wave of explorers and settlers, many of which were so bizarre as to defy the abilities of mans best research and development minds.

Large amounts of money were to be had by successful prospectors and salvage groups, if they could overcome the harsh and arduous environments, and return home with their alien trophies which might yield unexpected bounties to the human race.

The first wave of settlers and exploiters that mankind sent forth to the stars unwittingly unleashed an ancient pathogen found among the ruins of this alien empire. This pathogen spread throughout the colonies before it fully revealed itself. By then it was too late. Mankind’s new born empire was decimated and its success hung by a thread. But now the pathogen has played itself out, and it is time to rebuild what was lost. This is where you come in. With enough money to buy a salvage starship, and employ a rough and ready crew, you can see the opportunities that await someone who can survive on the Outer Rim and gather the resources left behind from the ruins of two empires, one human, one alien.
